In this post, we outline schedules for different types of hair goals and hair types. The list includes:
These schedules are not hard and fast rules. Keep the four lists below in mind along with the schedule for your hair goal or hair type.
- Growing Your Hair Out
- Dry, Damaged, Tangled Hair
- Flat, Fine, Oily Hair
- Flat, Fine, Highlighted Hair
- Full, Thick, Course Hair
- Need to Wash Hair Daily (ex: gym-goers)
These schedules are not hard and fast rules. Keep the four lists below in mind along with the schedule for your hair goal or hair type.
General Maintenance
- Deep condition bi-weekly or monthly - Haircuts every 3 - 12 weeks - If you color your hair: - Root touch ups 3 - 6 weeks - Gray coverage every 3 - 6 weeks - Highlight touch ups every 6 - 8 weeks |
Types of Shampoos
- Clarifying (note: used at most once a week) - Volumizing (note: usually indicated in marketing) - Moisturizing (note: usually indicated in marketing) - Daily Use (ex: co-washes) |
Things to Do To Your Hair
- Shampoo twice in one wash once a week - Wear a UV filter and/or hats - Scalp massages - Brush it gently - Brush it before showering - Use microfiber towels on wet hair |
Things Not to Do To Your Hair
- Spray perfume or cologne in it - Allow strands to get caught in backpacks, hoodies, purses, etc. - Skip shampoos during scalp build up - Twirl your hair - Wear long hair up wet while sleeping |
Growing Your Hair Out
Getting bi-monthly trims will help your hair grow. The starting point on the schedule below is two months after an initial haircut.

Daily: Try to avoid using heat on your hair aside from the days you blowdry. Use heat protection if you do. Avoid going to sleep with wet hair.
Weekly: Wash and blowdry full head of hair two or three times during the week. Use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, or a co-wash. Apply a deep conditioner at least once week.
Monthly: Leverage hair detoxes to remove build up once a month.
Using Schedule Below: Adjust to your needs. If you do not use heat to style your hair, heat protection is not necessary.

Daily: Wash bangs and/or crown of head and blowdry to refresh style on days you do not shampoo your full head of hair. Alternatively, use dry shampoo. Avoid tight ponytails and styles. Switch up part placement to prevent breakage in one specific spot in your style.
Weekly: Wash and blowdry full head of hair two or three times during the week. Use volumizing shampoos and conditioners.
Monthly: Leverage hair detoxes to remove build up once a month.
